Successful Community Citizen of the Year: Dorothy Gaydos Dorothy Gaydos’ success story began in late 2003 when she moved to the Espanola area. Dorothy is a Native American originally from the Taos Pueblo. When she first moved to Espanola, to be supported by R-Way, she was apprehensive. Dorothy was happy to be closer to her family, but she was unsure as to how the move to would impact her. She attended the Day Habilitation program services there. Then she decided she wanted to expand her connections in her new community. As part of this goal, she hosted in her home a Personal Profile meeting, which is a person-centered planning gathering of friends and family members exchanging ideas to create a “snapshot” about what the individual feels are valuable life goals. Dorothy is happy and continues to meet her personal goals. She volunteers with charitable organizations such as Knights of Columbus and her church, and is an active member of her community. She sews, cleans house, attends church and plays bingo. At the time of this award, Dorothy worked at the OK Travel Center in Espanola. March-2008 - Judy Stevens
