Other Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Evaluation Devices

Many high technology (high tech) Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) equipment vendors loan devices to Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) to support the evaluation process. This would include the more robust computer-based voice output communication devices that have features for computer interfacing and environmental control. These devices usually cost more than $1,000.

Light technology (light tech) devices or more simple voice output devices are less likely to be available for loan from vendors. It is expected that SLPs are able to assess for this type of device using low technology (low tech) supplies and/or simple technology available within their professional practice supplies.
