2008 ddsd statewide directors meeting award winners |
Full Community Inclusion, Best Team Support for Full Community Inclusion Cheryl Sloan is Betty King’s long-term direct support staff and Betty’s biggest fan. Rossina King is Betty’s substitute staff member and is always thinking of new ways of supporting people. Both work at Mosaic in Farmington. Cheryl and Rossina speak both English and Navajo and know Farmington and the local Navajo community really well. They are always willing to try new things and come up with a lot of good ideas on how best to support people for full community inclusion. When they saw that Betty needed and deserved more activities in her life that interested her and used her strengths, they brainstormed ways Betty could make a contribution to her community. The best idea was the Warming Up Project. They let others know what they wanted to do. They met with Emergency Management staff and introduced Betty to the Chapter House president. They did not wait to get started and were persistent in working with Betty so she could realize her community inclusion goals.
