DOH Seal Developmental Disabilities Supports Division, Services Overview

Family Infant Toddler Program:
All children grow and develop at their own pace. Sometimes children have special developmental needs or health concerns that may put them at risk for, or cause a developmental delay. Through the Department of Health's Family Infant Toddler (FIT) Program, early intervention services are available to help families who have concerns about the development of their young children (birth to three). The How Your Baby Grows chart is a guide to the developmental stages and activities that parents will be able to observe in their baby. For more information regarding early intervention, please call 1-877-696-1472. Information is available in English, Spanish, Navajo and on audio tapes.

FIT Program Family Handbook:
We understand that people are giving you a lot of new information and it may be hard to take it all in. Your service coordinator will go through the handbook with you, but we hope that you and your family will sit down and go through it also. The Family Handbook has a number of short worksheets and tips to help you think about questions to ask or to guide you in making decisions for your child and family. Download the FIT Family Handbook.

What is Early Intervention? It is a program designed to meet and support your child's learning and development during the important time from birth to three years of age.  You and the early intervention professionals Photo by Mary Zarembawill work as a team to develop a plan called the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) that will help you and your family decide what you would like to see changed, how to make those changes occur and what kinds of services will help your child grow. A service coordinator (case manager) will work with you and your family to: 1) help arrange a comprehensive developmental evaluation, 2) direct you to options and services available in the local area.
