Respite Services for Children & Adults:
Respite service is a flexible family support service. The Respite Care personnel assist the family by providing temporary periods of time away from the caregiver's duties. The Respite Care personnel assist the individual in activities of daily living to promote the individual's health and safety, as well as maintain a clean and safe environment. The family, in collaboration with the Respite Care Service Provider, will arrange respite care. In New Mexico, all Respite services are coordinated through the Family Infant Toddler Program with the exceptin of the Medically Fragile Waiver Program (see
Medically Fragile Respite Services).
Family Infant Toddler (FIT) Respite Program:
The Family Infant Toddler (FIT) Program helps families with children birth to three years old (ages 0-3) who have or are at risk for Developmental Delay and who are New Mexico residents. Respite services are also available for children (ages 3-21) and adults (22 and over). Call toll free at 1-877-696-1472 for more information on the FIT Respite program.
Respite services include:
Providing non-medical health care.
Assisting the individual to enhance self-help skills and community and social awareness.
Preparing or assisting the individual in preparation of meals and in eating.
Providing opportunities for community and neighborhood integration and involvement.
Providing opportunities for leisure, play and other recreational activities.
Providing opportunities for the individual to make his/her own choices with regard to daily activities.
