Model Employment Project
The model employment site will promote awareness and skills of stakeholders involved in the development of meaningful employment for individuals with significant challenges. As part of this specialized model, support providers in collaboration with interdisciplinary team (IDT) members, will assign work to the self-advocate employees that matches individual interest and provides opportunities for learning and skill development. The community provider agency provided trained job coaches to offer on-the-job training for the two self-advocate employees. The job coaches identified, developed and evaluated performance and the career goals. They also developed program enhancements to include Assistive Technology supports and staff coaching that promoted the increased independence of self-advocate employees.
The program site has been established to provide ongoing training related to meaningful and creative work supports for individuals with significant challenges. Access to the training site is available to therapists, self-advocates, parents/guardians and staff of case management, community provider and/or supported employment agencies, on an on-going basis (See: information reported on this project.).
