What is environmental health?

Environmental Health (EH) is the branch of public health protection that is concerned with all aspects of the natural and built environment that may affect human health.

EH is also a field of science that studies how the environment influences human health and disease.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and in New Mexico. An astonishing 80 percent of women ages 40 to 60 in the United States have one or more risk factor for heart disease. Having one or more risk factors dramatically increases a woman’s chance of developing heart disease because risk factors tend to worsen each other’s effects.
