Department of Health Announces Six West Nile Cases
(Santa Fe) – The New Mexico Department of Health announced today that there have been seven cases of West Nile Virus in six counties so far this year. Cases are a 64-year-old man from Doña Ana County, a 55-year-old man from Valencia County, a 76-year-old man from Chaves County, a 9-year-old boy from Sierra County and a 26-year-old man from San Juan County. A 48-year-old man from Bernalillo County is hospitalized with encephalitis. He became sick in early September. The other cases have recovered, and there have been no deaths. (Read More)

State Publishes Third Health Disparities Report Card Data to Help State, Communities Improve Health of Minorities
(Santa Fe) – The New Mexico Department of Health has recently published the third edition of the Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities Report Card to increase awareness about health issues facing New Mexico’s diverse population. The report card will guide the Department of Health’s efforts to improve the health of all racial and ethnic groups in areas such as maternal and child health, violence and injury, chronic disease, infectious diseases and risk behaviors. State Encourages High Risk to Make Appointment for Flu Shot Now; Department of Health Orders Additional Supply for Pilot Project in Schools
(Santa Fe) – The New Mexico Department of Health and New Mexico Influenza Vaccine Consortium encourage New Mexicans at higher risk of developing flu complications to protect themselves by making appointments with their healthcare provider to get their flu shots soon. The Department of Health has sent 70,000 adult flu shots to public health offices and the department’s longterm care facilities across the state. (Read More)
