County Health Councils
Each of the ten counties in Region 5 has a comprehensive health council. All except Dona Ana County had received funding from the DOH Public Health Division to plan, coordinate and evaluate health services and programs in their areas in order to enhance the health status of residents. In June 2010 NMDOH contractual funding for Health Councils ended. Council members examine epidemilogic data and related statistics to develop health profiles, priorities, and plans for community health improvement. Facts and figures about hospital inpatient discharge data, behavioral risk factor surveillance surveys, youth risk and resiliency surveys, vital records, and regional research are important sources of data for health councils. Region Health Promotion Specialists and the Region Epidemiologist assist counties in this process of data collection, analysis and interpretation. A table giving details of Region 5 county health councils may be viewed via this link: Region 5 Health Councils. Specific county profiles and plans may be viewed by clicking on the indicated section of the map above for more information.
