Birth Control and Emergency Contraception

There are many great resources for learning about your birth control and emergency contraception options.
Visit Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains for more information.

Emergency contraception (Plan B)

Emergency contraception is NOT abortion. Emergency contraception stops a pregnancy from happening. Abortion ends a pregnancy that already exists.
There are multiple types of emergency contraception.
Visit CDC Emergency Contraception for more information.

Paying for birth control and emergency contraception in New Mexico

NM Medicaid covers most birth control at no out-of-pocket cost. You can also use Medicaid for emergency contraception. Federal law requires private insurance to cover birth control as well. When you use private insurance an Explanation of Benefits will be sent to your home in the mail stating that you got birth control.

The NM Department of Health provides low-cost or no-cost family planning services. All individuals can get these without permission from a parent. For more information, visit Family Planning.
