Department of Health honors National Public Health Week

SANTA FE — New Mexicans can access free vaccinations, reproductive health services, opioid use disorder treatment, nutrition support and children’s medical services at public health offices across the state, the New Mexico Department of Health announced during National Public Health Week, April 6-12.

The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) operates public health offices statewide offering a range of clinical and preventative services, including:

Children’s medical services  
CMS provides medical case management for eligible youth ages 0–21, manages statewide newborn genetic and hearing screening systems, and helps ensure families receive timely follow-up and coordinated care.

Family planning services
Public health offices offer comprehensive reproductive health services, including birth control counseling, pregnancy testing, and education on healthy birth spacing.

Medication for opioid use disorder
Public health offices offer access to medications used to treat opioid use disorder through the NMPathways Program.  These medications can be prescribed both in person and via telehealth within 48-72 hours of enrollment and after meeting with one of our clinicians. These services are available to anyone regardless of their insurance status.

Vaccinations & Screening for sexually transmitted infections
Public health offices offer free vaccination to help stem the tide of viruses as well as STI testing, treatment, and prevention education to reduce congenital infections and support both maternal and infant health.

Women, Infants & Children nutrition assistance program (WIC)
WIC provides nutrition support, breastfeeding assistance, education, and supplemental foods for pregnant individuals. breastfeeding individuals, postpartum individuals and infants and children up to age five.
