Anthony, Chaparral, Sunland Park Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week
The New Mexico Department of Health’s Anthony, Chaparral, and Sunland Park Women, Infants, Children programs (WIC) and the New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force, New Mexico Office of Border Health, City of Anthony NM, Town of Anthony TX, and surrounding businesses and programs will host its first ever “Breastfeeding on the Border Walk and Carnival” Event on August 6, 2016 at Enrique Miramontes Memorial Park in Anthony TX from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
The “Breastfeeding on the Border Walk and Carnival” aims to strengthen local support for breastfeeding and to improve the health of children and women in the community. It is one of many events that take place annually during World Breastfeeding Week (August 1st – 7th).
“This and similar events statewide raise awareness of breastfeeding, encourages the formation of support networks between breastfeeding women, and aims to normalize breastfeeding as a part of daily life,” said Department of Health Secretary Designate Lynn Gallagher. “Our New Mexico WIC program is helping make those goals a reality on daily basis in our state.”
WIC services approximately 4600 families in Doña Ana County per month.
WIC is the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). It is a federal program administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service, and the New Mexico Department of Health, Public Health Division.
