Professional and Clinical Services

Professional and Clinical Services through the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver include three therapy disciplines, Adult Nursing, Nutritional Counseling and Behavior Support Consultation (BSC). Detailed service descriptions can be found in the DD waiver Service Standards.  Requesting an initial assessment is the first step in identifying whether ongoing therapy and/or BSC is clinically justified.

Please see the Services and Supports section of our website to access the most current DD Waiver service standards for more detailed information on the provision of and requirements for these services.

Adult Nursing

Adult Nursing Services are designed to meet a variety of health conditions experienced by adults receiving services on the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver Program.

There are two categories of Adult Nursing Service: Nursing Assessment and Consultation Services and Ongoing Adult Nursing Services. Services are available based on clinical justification and various requirements based on health conditions and living supports.

Please visit Adult Nursing Services section of our website to learn more.

Behavioral Support Consultation

Behavioral Support Consultation (BSC) services are intended to enhance the DD Waiver participant’s quality of life by providing Positive Behavioral Supports as the individual works on functional and relational skills. BSC services identify behavior that impact quality of life and provide specific prevention and intervention strategies to manage and lessen the risks these behaviors present. BSC services do not include individual or group therapy, or any other mental health or behavioral health services that would typically be provided through the Medicaid state plan benefits.

Visit the Bureau of Behavioral Support Services section of our website for more information, forms and instructions, and technical assistance related to BSC.

Initial Therapy and Behavior Support Consultation Assessments

Therapy and BSC assessments are available to adults through the DD Waiver program. Interdisciplinary Teams (IDT) may recommend an initial therapy and/or BSC assessment for individuals under various circumstance. Visit the Clinical Services section of our website for more information, forms and instructions, and technical assistance related to therapies. Visit the Behavioral Support Services section of our website for more information, forms and instructions, and technical assistance related to BSC.

Nutritional Counseling

Nutritional Counseling includes assessment, evaluation, collaboration, planning, teaching, consultation and implementation and monitoring of a nutritional plan.  Nutritional Counseling Services may be in addition to and cannot duplicate nutritional or dietary services allowed in the individual’s Medicaid state plan benefit, or another funding source.

Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, & Occupational Therapy

Within the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver, Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), and Speech Language Pathology (SLP) services are delivered by licensed practitioners. Therapy services provided through the DD Waiver are not the same as therapy services provided by routine health insurance. DD Waiver therapies are delivered consistent with the participatory approach philosophy and the collaborative-consultative model of therapy to emphasize increased participation, independence and community inclusion in combination with health and safety. Therapy services are designed to support achievement of Individual Service Plan (ISP) outcomes and prioritized areas of need identified through therapeutic assessment.

Please visit the Clinical Services section of our website for more information, forms and instructions, and technical assistance related to therapies.
