Community & Health Systems Epidemiology Bureau

What is the Community & Health Systems Epidemiology Bureau?

A major purpose for the Community & Health Systems Epidemiology Bureau (CHSEB) is to determine to what degree the healthcare system can improve health status in New Mexico. This bureau includes the Community Health Assessment Program (CHAP), the Health Systems Epidemiology Program (HSEP), and Health Data Dissemination Coordinator. CHSEB provides management and analytical expertise related to the acquisition of health datasets that assist with population surveillance and assessments of health conditions affecting New Mexicans. CHSEB staff assist ERD programs in epidemiological studies using currently available data systems (Hospital Inpatient Discharge Data and Emergency Department data) as well as newly-emerging data systems (syndromic surveillance, health care workforce, and claims data) to conduct population-based health surveillance of New Mexicans. CHSEB staff also assist in the improvement and maintenance of the New Mexico Indicator Based Information System (NM-IBIS), as well as health data presentation and dissemination.
