NM Notify, New Mexico’s COVID Exposure Alert system, to shut down today

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) reminds New Mexicans that NM Notify, New Mexico’s COVID-19 Exposure Alert system, will shut down today, May 11. The system was supported by the Association of Public Health Laboratories in partnership with Google, Apple and Microsoft. The national funding and resources that made this system possible are no longer going to be available after today.

During the pandemic the majority of New Mexicans activated the NM Notify app on their phone. More than 1.5 million notifications were sent to users who may have had sufficient exposure to COVID-19 to become infected.

Users of NM Notify will be automatically notified when the application is no longer operational. They will not need to do anything at that time.

As a reminder, also happening today in conjunction with the end of the national Public Health Emergency, the New Mexico Department of Health will discontinue its daily reporting of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, deaths, and tests. DOH will continue to monitor the week-by-week trends in COVID-19 infections, COVID-19 related hospitalizations and COVID-19 related deaths.

People at highest risk for severe COVID-19 are people over the age of 65 and individuals who are immunocompromised. We now have more tools and resources than ever before to prevent and treat COVID.

  • Stay up to date on flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
  • Get tested if you have symptoms of COVID.
  • If you do get COVID, get treated if you are at high risk for severe COVID.
  • Stay home if you or your child is sick.
  • Wash hands thoroughly and frequently.
  • Keep common, high touch surface areas clean and regularly disinfected.
