Arizona Vital Records (resource)

The Bureau of Vital Records for the State of Arizon is responsible for maintaining and issuing certified copies of vital records, including birth, death, fetal death certificates and certificates of birth resulting in stillbirth for events that occurred in Arizona. The national standard for estimating gestational age of newborns, until recently, relied on the interval between the first day of the mother’s last normal menstrual period and the date of birth. Beginning with 2014 national birth data released in December 2015, the National Center for Health Statistics transitioned to the obstetric estimate of gestation defined as the birth attendant’s final estimate of gestation at delivery.

The infant health indicators were low birth weight and preterm births. Statistically, Medicaid indicators relate to preterm births and low birth weight. A mother's education level affects decisions directly influencing her and her children's health. Worldwide, higher maternal education is linked to decreases in low birth weight, infant mortality, and maternal mortality. Level of education is related to children's physical health and academic outcomes, both as children and adults. Maternal education is associated with children's nutritional status and potential obesity. Children of mothers with a high school diploma or less have a higher likelihood of adolescent obesity. Higher education levels are associated with maternal reproductive decisions including contraceptive use, having fewer children, and a later age of marriage.
