New Mexico Department of Health Public Hearing - April 25, 2025: Certification of Community Health Workers
The New Mexico Department of Health will hold a Public Hearing on the proposed repeal and replacement of rule 7.29.5 NMAC, “Certification of Community Health Workers.” The hearing will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. via the Microsoft Teams Internet-based video conferencing system, and via telephone. All comments will be recorded.
Any interested member of the public may attend the hearing and may submit data, views, or arguments on the proposed rule either orally or in writing during the hearing.

Written comments must be received by the close of the public rule hearing on April 25, 2025. All written comments will be published on the agency website at https://www.nmhealth.org/about/asd/cmo/rules/ within 3 days of receipt, and will be available at the New Mexico Department of Health for public inspection. SAVE THE DATE: It’s with great excitement to announce our 4th Annual New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH), Office of Community Health Workers’ (OCHW) 2025 New Mexico Statewide CHW Conference scheduled on October 27 & 28, 2025 in Albuquerque, NM at the Sandia Resort & Casino.
Conference Objective: The goal of this conference is to offer two full days of educational opportunities, including continuing education trainings that support Community Health Worker (CHW) certification and renewal in New Mexico. Sessions will also provide important updates on the rollout of the New Mexico Medicaid Reimbursement model for independent CHWs, Community Health Representatives (CHRs), and healthcare providers. Most importantly, this conference serves as a heartfelt tribute—an opportunity to recognize and express our deepest gratitude to the CHW, CHR, and Promotora/Promotor de Salud workforce for their unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of New Mexico communities.
